As I read the Word, especially the Old Testament, there’s a word that catches my attention.

“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.  It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” – Deuteronomy 7:6

The verse brought about a specific question that I put off asking God for fear that I may come across selfish. However, we know better than to think He doesn’t already know it. So, I bared my heart and like a child, asked my Father.

Why are the Jews your chosen people?

My followup questions to justify questioning my Father’s favor were:

If You created and formed every human being, why aren’t we all chosen? I thought there was no  partiality or favoritism in You, Daddy?

I would be lying if I wasn’t cringing at myself, but that was just the enemy trying to get me to not be honest with Jesus. I believe that God wants us to be real with Him and not put up a front or hide our feelings. He wants to answer any & every question we have.  I felt the Holy Spirit nudge me to continue reading the Word that evening. I had a hunch I would come across the answer.  He answered.

“But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel,  and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”  This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.  For this is what the promise said: “About this time next year I will return, and Sarah shall have a son.”  And not only so, but also when Rebekah had conceived children by one man, our forefather Isaac,  though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad—in order that God’s purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of him who calls— she was told, “The older will serve the younger.”  As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” – Romans 9:6

Children of the promise. Something in my spirit came alive. My identity was being awakened. The questions and concern of not being chosen faded quickly. I may not be in the bloodline of His Son, I may not be Jewish, but my Creator extends the same promise to me. He didn’t leave me out of the will. There is no fine print. I have my inheritance of eternity with my Savior and He has not forgotten me.

“This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.” – Ephesians 3:6

My label as a Gentile is not one to be ashamed of. We have received the Spirit of adoption & can choose to walk in the promise that Israel does. Just as a parent who adopts a child, He chooses to welcome us in to the family. He raises us in His love & power and looks after us as His own. It’s a free gift, not one earned by any action other than saying yes. But we must say yes in order to receive it.

All who say yes are chosen.

There are many out there who have felt forgotten, left out, or ignored. But I want to remind you of something. The One who created you has not left you out in the cold. You are His, and He adores you. Ask Him to give you a revelation of your identity in Him, of the riches He has provided you as His child. His banner over you is love, and He waves it proudly.

“But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.”- Galatians 4:4

“What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,  in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory— even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles?  As indeed he says in Hosea, “Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people, and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’” And in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’”  Romans 9:22

“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” – Romans 8:15

“According to his great mercy,he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,  who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” – 1 Peter 1:4

I will be beginning a blog series soon focused on our identity as God’s elect, His beloved. I am truly excited to share what the Holy Spirit has been impressing upon me about who we are to Him & through Him.

Amen! I think this is GREAT Gina! It touches on a topic/conversation I recently had with my mom. Bringing brought up the church always taught me “not to question God”, so I realized for the past 29 years there is a part of me that hasn’t “been real” with Him. Not in the manner of questioning, but you should feel free enough to cry out to the Creator and ask “WHYYYYY” sometimes without worrying that He is going to perform some backlash and you will be wiped out. You know? Well sort of dramatic with that example, but point still stands. We are CHOSEN .. we are HIS CHILDREN .. He knows us better than we know ourselves, so why do we “fake it” .. for our own sake? We need to realize our worth .. our TRUE worth .. learn to see ourselves not as “we” think we are .. or what the world tells us .. but what HE SAYS.
Ah, love love love Him so!
